When upgrading your S13/180sx rear brakes to Nissan 2 pot calipers/drum setup you will find the handbrake cables do not exactly line up to the S13/180sx chassis and handbrake lever.
The GKTECH cable conversion plate is made from laser cut 8mm thick steel and allows you to easily adapt R33 (2 door) cables to your S13/180sx chassis and handbrake lever.
We allow these lines to be located via the OEM handbrake pin which is cast into the cable bracket and also has incorporated an M8 thread in the plate to hold the cables down rather than the M6 thread used from OEM. This means you don’t have to waste time around with loose nuts on the top and fidgeting around with spanners and different tools.
While you are doing this conversion it would be worth upgrading the brake lines also. You can choose from either just the rear lines if you have the front sorted or a full kit.
Our full brake line kit is specifically made for an S13/180sx that is doing this conversion and using these brakes.
The GKTECH braided brake lines are assembled using stainless steel fittings and hose that consists of a Teflon inner tube wrapped in stainless steel braid and a PVC outer coating for protection. The brake lines have been independently tested to comply with FMVSS106 standards for brake hoses. This makes the lines ADR approved in Australia and they are marked as such on the brake line assemblies.
The FMVSS106 testing procedure that the lines have been tested against includes the following tests:
- 370lbs pull test
- 35 hour whip test
- 7000psi burst test
- -45degC to 146degC temperature tests
- 24 hour salt corrosion resistance test
We also offer R33 OEM handbrake cables to suit the 5 stud drum conversion, which can be selected above.
FAQs
Will this fit my car?We can only confirm fitment for the vehicles listed above under "vehicle compatibility". If your car is not listed there, then we don't know if it will fit.
Do you make these to suit other cars?
We only sell the parts listed on our website. If it's not listed on our website, then we don't sell it. Sorry.
What's the advantage of using the GKTech drum handbrake cable conversion plate?
Most conversion plates are made in a backyard using a thin sheet of metal, ours is from 8mm thick steel and has been engineered to locate the OEM handbrake cables to the chassis. This ensures there is absolutely no flex when the handbrake cables are in operation.
What modifications are required, is this hard to fit?
No modifications are required, simply just bolt the plate up your chassis, then your cables to the plate.
Is there anything else needed for installation?
No, all accessories are included with the product and will arrive as shown in the product photo.
Can I install this myself? If so how long will installation take?
Yes, this can be easily installed and should take around 20mins.
Cant my original lines bolt up?
No, they do not. When doing a brake conversion that requires drum brakes you will find the cables do not match up to your S13/180sx OEM lever and front cable. This means you need our conversion plate that enables you to keep your OEM lever and front cable while running the respective handbrake cables too.
Why use an M8 hole to locate the cables instead of the M6 provided by factory?
We noticed the OEM handbrake cable has the allowance for a larger bolt to be used to secure the cable, why not use something that is already there to make a better/stronger product!
Is 8mm too thick and will this cause any issues?
There are no clearance issues and considering people are constantly pulling the handbrake whilst drifting we felt the need to overcompensate an important connecting part.
What if I have Z32 rear brakes fitted, which cable do I use?
This listing is for the use of an R33 cable which can bolt up to your Z32 rear brakes and the adapter plate also in this listing. You do not need to purchase the Z32 cable in our other listing, that is only for a direct OEM replacement.
